Genealogy Resources

This is where I intend putting links to genealogy sites such as Ancestry.com and My Heritage and WikiTree etc.
Access to some sites are free, and others require a paid subscription.

Not much yet available, but Here is a rough start…

WikiTree

This is a free and hassle free site (but you may need to create a free account for yourself).
I recommend this site.

You can create a free account here… Create Account (wikitree.com)
Here are a few links to some profiles of individuals, freely available on the WikiTree website.
Most of these profiles were created and are managed by me (Jeff Edwards).
After a little experience, you may wish to create and manage profiles of your own.

WikiTree Profile for Ronald Keith Edwards
WikiTree Profile for Margaret Jean Houston
WikiTree Profile for Jeff Edwards

WikiTree Profile for Roy Sylvan Houston
WikiTree Profile for Margaret Rennie Houston

WikiTree Profile for James Howie
(Roy Houston’s grandfather, who died on the voyage from Scotland to South Australia in 1847.

Ancestry.com
This is a paid subscription site, and at times when I am not actively involved in using its resources for my own genealogy research, I regard it as somewhat overpriced.

There are three options available to you in using Ancestry.
You can either…

(1) Join up for a paid annual subscription
This gives you access to everyone’s family tree on Ancestry.com (except those marked as private), and ability to use the genealogy resources of Ancestry.com and ability to create and publish your own family tree.

(2) Join up for a limited FREE TRIAL account for a period before annual subscriptions automatically come into play. You will need to provide credit card details up front when you create the account. And you will need to remember to actively close the trial account by the due date to avoid automatic renewal and charge to your credit card.
This gives you access to everyone’s family tree on Ancestry.com, but only for the period of the free trial period (which I think is 3 or 6 months?)

(3) Join up for a FREE GUEST account (no credit card or ongoing commitment is required)
This is NOT the same as a free trial account which automatically turns into a paid account.
This Guest account allows you to create your own family tree, but relies with information you already have.
(You need to already have the information because Ancestry.com is not going to give you this information for free)
With a free guest account, you cannot view anyone else’s family tree except for family trees that you have requested the owner to provide access to you and the owner has specifically agreed to allow you to have access.

Jeff Edwards owns two family trees on Ancestry.com. The trees have been named as…
HOUSTON THOMSON Ancestors
EDWARDS WATKINS Ancestors

If you create a guest account and have a legitimate interest in these family trees on Ancestry.com, I as owner of those family trees are likely to agree to give your username access to them. However, because of the ongoing cost, I am unsure of how many more years I am willing to maintain my account with Ancestry.

One interesting point is that when the owner of an Ancestry family tree discontinues their account, the trees that they own are not deleted, but remain available for those with a paid Ancestry account, or guests who have previously been granted access to those family trees.
